The Australian Water Python (Liasis fuscus) is a powerful and impressive snake species known for its beautiful iridescent scales and strong feeding response. These snakes typically display rich brown to olive coloration with a glossy sheen that can reflect shades of purple or blue under proper lighting. Native to northern regions of Australia, Water Pythons are semi-aquatic and are often found near wetlands, rivers, and floodplains.

Australian Water Pythons are active, alert snakes that can grow between 5–8 feet in length when fully mature. While they can be handled once accustomed to their keeper, they are generally more food-driven than some other python species, making them better suited for keepers with some reptile experience.

In captivity, they thrive in a secure enclosure that provides both land space and a large water area for soaking. Temperatures should be maintained with a warm side around 30–32Β°C (86–90Β°F) and a cooler side around 25–27Β°C (77–81Β°F). Humidity should stay moderate to high, generally between 60–70%, to help support proper shedding and hydration.

Australian Water Pythons are carnivorous and feed primarily on rodents in captivity. Frozen-thawed mice or rats are typically offered depending on the snake’s size. Juveniles may eat weekly, while adults usually eat every 10–14 days.

With their impressive size, glossy scales, and active personality, Australian Water Pythons are a fascinating species that make a striking display animal for reptile enthusiasts looking to add a unique python species to their collection.
