The Gargoyle Gecko (Black & White) is a beautiful and hardy arboreal gecko known for its bold contrast of dark black coloration with lighter white or grey markings. This unique pattern gives the gecko a rugged, stone-like appearance that makes it stand out in any reptile collection. Native to the forests of New Caledonia, Gargoyle Geckos are well known for their calm temperament, durability, and ease of care.
These geckos are primarily nocturnal and become most active in the evening, climbing branches and exploring their enclosure. Their manageable size and relatively simple care requirements make them an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced reptile keepers.
Gargoyle Geckos thrive in a vertically oriented enclosure with plenty of climbing branches, cork bark, and hiding spots. Temperatures should generally stay between 22–26°C (72–79°F) during the day with a slight drop at night. Humidity should be maintained around 50–70% with light daily misting to support hydration and proper shedding.
In captivity, Gargoyle Geckos do well on a diet of prepared fruit-based gecko diets, which provide balanced nutrition. They can also be offered insects such as crickets or roaches occasionally as enrichment and additional protein. Fresh water should always be available.
With their prehistoric look, expressive eyes, and striking black and white pattern, Gargoyle Geckos make fascinating display animals. Each gecko has unique markings and coloration, making every individual truly one of a kind and a great addition to any reptile enthusiast’s collection.
