Sailfin Pleco (Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps)

The Sailfin Pleco is a stunning freshwater catfish recognized for its large, dramatic dorsal fin and beautiful leopard-like pattern. This peaceful bottom-dweller is an excellent algae grazer when young but grows into a very large fish that requires a spacious aquarium. Sailfin Plecos are best suited for aquarists prepared to accommodate their adult size.

Sailfin Plecos are primarily nocturnal and enjoy aquariums with driftwood, caves, and plenty of hiding places. Driftwood is beneficial for their digestion and should always be available. Although they consume algae, they require a balanced diet and should not be relied upon as the sole algae control in an aquarium.
